1/2" barrel - High polish finish and fire blue small
parts. Marked on top of barrel:COLT'S PAT

PATENTED AUGUST 5, 1884, JUNE 5, 1900, APRIL 9, 1901
Revolver is fitted with Peard silver bead
adjustable front sight (elevation) and Lyman Adjustable Rear
Sight (windage). Ejector rod head has two smooth collars
with large hole in front collar. Deluxe hand checkered
fancy walnut grips with no medallions. Revolver has a later
style cylinder release, but the original flat latch cylinder
release (numbered to the gun) accompanies the revolver.
Factory letter indicates this New Service
Target revolver was one of two shipped to M. Hartley
Company, New York, New York on June 13, 1901.
Early Colt New Service Target Serial Number 5845 with 7
1/2" barrel - right side. Notice small "H" carved at
the top of the right grip for former owner, Howard A. Bayles,
M.D., member of the Connecticut Civilian Team who competed
on the N.R.A. Pistol Team.
H.A. Bayliss (sic. Bayles) is listed
in the 1919 Colt brochure about the Colt Government Model
used in pistol matches. Noted pistol experts Alfred P. Lane
and Major John W. (Jack) Hession are also listed.

Underside of barrel next to frame is marked
"V44"
Front sight - To raise elevation turn smaller screw on right
side of sight clockwise. To lower, turn counter clockwise.
There is no lock screw for elevation.
Rear sight - For windage, loosen jam screw on top of
sight and turn larger screw on left side of sight clockwise
for left windage. Tighten jam screw on top after making
adjustments. |
